The 95th Academy Awards was a massive victory for streaming giant Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX), which received 15 nominations and won six trophies on Sunday night.
Walt Disney Co. (NYSE:DIS), which had 22 nominations, ended up walking away with just two awards.
What Happened: Highly acclaimed German film “All Quiet On The Western Front,” which tells the story of a 17-year-old soldier facing the grim reality of World War I in the trenches, turned out to be Netflix’s trump card. It bagged five Oscars, including Best Foreign Language film and Best Cinematography.

Other wins for the Los Gatos, California-based company included Guillermo del Toro‘s animated feature “Pinocchio” and the short documentary “The Elephant Whisperers” which follows the lives of a couple caring for an orphaned baby elephant in south India.
Bob Iger-led Disney managed to win awards for the Marvel franchise “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and James Cameron‘s blockbuster sequel “Avatar: The Way Of Water.”

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), however, could not repeat last year’s success, converting only one of its two nominations at the 2023 Academy Awards.
