The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (NYSE: SPY) bounced off its early Monday lows but still closed down 1.4%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 725 points for its worst day of 2021.
Pre-open movers
U.S. stock futures traded higher in early pre-market trade ahead of the release of wholesale inventories data. The Dow Jones closed lower by more than 250 points on Thursday after jobless claims unexpectedly rose in the latest week.
At 2:30 a.m. ET Thursday morning, bearish volume picked up on the S&P 500 e-mini Futures and by 6:15 a.m., ES1 had fallen over 70 points.
At about the same time the Volatility S&P 500 Index (NYSE: VIX) began to spike and by Thursday morning was trading at over $20.
