Midway through trading Friday, the Dow traded up 0.39% to 34,713.33 while the NASDAQ rose 1.28% to 13,789.21. The S&P also rose, gaining 0.69% to 4,221.95.
This week, we're looking at the meaning of electric trucks delivering groceries, autonomous trucks delivering watermelons and other "firsts" trying to make the case for advanced transportation technologies. And a sort of contrarian view on both.
After a few quarters of sales growth significantly outpacing inventory additions, the two were closer to parity at retailers specializing in general merchandise and household goods during the fiscal first quarter, which concluded at the end of April. While stock levels are beginning to improve, it appears it may take retailers a while to rebuild positions to normal historical levels.
Following the market opening Friday, the Dow traded up 0.26% to 34,666.18 while the NASDAQ rose 1.22% to 13,780.27. The S&P also rose, gaining 0.64% to 4,219.82.
Toward the end of trading Thursday, the Dow traded up 0.11% to 34,638.95 while the NASDAQ fell 0.69% to 13,661.27. The S&P also fell, dropping 0.18% to 4,200.55.

Shippo, an e-commerce shipping platform, has announced it has raised $50 million in new funding led by Bessemer Venture Partners. The company has raised a total of $154.3 million since 2014.
This round has pushed Shippo to unicorn status, now valued at $1 billion.
Following the market opening Thursday, the Dow traded down 0.28% to 34,502.44 while the NASDAQ fell 0.98% to 13,621.46. The S&P also fell, dropping 0.54% to 4,185.22.
